PAST OF VK108
Along with the declaration of the Republic, modern apartment buildings dominate the appearance of the district on the Valikonağı Caddesi (Governor's Palace Street) in Nişantaşı. It's right here, where historical building, forming the base of VK108, too, was designed as the product of a limited competition in 1972 by the architectural co-operation of Tekeli and Sisa under the name of Yapı Kredi Bankası Mensupları Yardım ve Emekli Sandığı Vakfı Sitesi (Building Complex of Yapı Kredi Bank Officers Assistance and Retirement Fund Foundation).
Tekeli-Sisa, being one of the long-established architectural offices of Turkey, aims to reach a durable and serene architecture, away from fashion since its establishment. The equivalent interpretation of the structure and design, understanding of flexible space, have emerged as the marks of that target. Though the selected materials reflect the architectural styles of the period, the interpretation of the form is modern and timeless. Thanks to these features, it disintegrates from other buildings in the neighborhood at first glance.
The building, having a full view at Çamlıca, Üsküdar and the Bosphorus, is located at the end of the Valikonağı (Governor's Palaca Str). Kept back from the bustle of the street, settled into a single mass, so all apartments benefit equally from the landscape and light. The general design understanding of the project architects is to script the life in the structure. This approach shows itself with the flexible space schema in apartments and becomes the symbol of Nişantaşı.
PRESENT OF VK108
Bilgili Holding, paying utmost attention for the protection of the spirit of İstanbul, to leave marks that behoove with its visage in all projects they perform, builds VK108, regenerating one of the landmarks of Nişantaşı and Istanbul, as a "lifestyle center", which the people of Istanbul know very well but will know and revive again with its new face like the other restoration projects..
Instead of pulling down the VK108, Bilgili re-vitalizes it by bringing together the state-of-art technology of today and its experience and mastery shown in its past restoration projects such as Akaretler Sıraevler, Topkapı Alay Köşkü, Topkapi Alay Köşkü, Thessaloniki Atatürk's House, Ahmet Rasim Pasha Mansion, American Consulate in Beyoglu (Soho House). Thus, this timeless structure has the chance to transfer its values to the next generation.
